Bloomer bread
typically has a dense, crispy crust and is popularly used for sandwiches and toast
Bloomer bread was originally popularised in London. The name ‘Bloomer’ refers to the shape of the bread, which is usually a crusty loaf that is rounded at the ends and on the top, with a flat bottom. It is allowed to rise or ‘bloom’ without a bread tin holding it in place. A Bloomer loaf commonly has between 7 and 13 diagonal slashes in the top of the bread, but there is no definite rule about this. While there are many suggestions as per the meaning of the slashes, the real reason is that they are applied to the dough before its final rise to help direct the spring and shape of the bread.
Bloomer bread typically has a dense, crispy crust and is popularly used for sandwiches and toast.
All Bloomer bread can be sliced in a choice of 3 different thicknesses:
- 13mm Thick sliced – 23 usable slices per loaf
- 15mm Extra Thick sliced – 19 usable slices per load
- 20mm Doorstep sliced – 14 usable sliced per load
